Smart Readers

Smart Readers — San Antonio Access Control Service

The OpenPath Smart Reader combines an access reader and controller in a single PoE-powered device. Each Smart Reader makes access decisions independently, eliminating the need for a separate controller panel. This reduces installation complexity and wiring to a single Ethernet cable per door. Smart Readers support mobile credentials (Wave to Unlock), cards, fobs, and Apple Wallet.

S.A. Locksmith & Security installs OpenPath Smart Readers for offices and commercial spaces across San Antonio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Smart Reader replace the need for a controller?

For single-door installations, yes. Each Smart Reader contains its own controller intelligence and manages access independently. For multi-door coordination (anti-passback, elevator control), the Alta Controller platform is recommended.

What is Wave to Unlock?

Wave to Unlock is OpenPath’s hands-free access feature. The reader detects your phone via Bluetooth as you approach and unlocks the door with a simple wave gesture — no phone interaction required.
